• studies in physics at the TU Berlin and at the University of Ulster, North Ireland, thesis at the Universite de Nice-Sophia Antipolis (France) in the field of integrated optics (diploma at the TU Berlin, 1995)
• academic researcher at the Institute for Physical Chemistry of the university of Karlsruhe (1995-2000), doctoral degree with a thesis in the field of spectroscopy of metal-salt-melts at the university of Karlsruhe (2000)
• academic researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Communications Engineering - Heinrich-Hertz-Institute - in Berlin in the field of photonic components for high-speed data transmission (2000 - 2005)
• patent engineer at Maikowski & Ninnemann (since 2005)
